If you smoke weed, you have to deal with weed stems. They don't work in a joint, but it feels like a waste to throw it away. You can get high on cannabis stems - Find out how.

Can I / Should I Smoke Weed Stems?

No, you should not smoke weed stems. Smoking stems produce a harsh and intense flavor that can ruin your smoking experience. In addition, the cannabis stems contain significantly less THC and CBD. There are also only small amounts of the other 100-something cannabinoids.

However, you should collect your marijuana stems. If you already have stems lying around, great! Read on to find out the best 15 ways to use them. If not, start collecting and come back around when you have a bunch, or educate yourself so you are prepared when the time comes to use your valuable weed stems.

Wasting a perfectly good part of the cannabis plant would be such a shame. The entire cannabis flower is usable!

Storing Cannabis Stems

It is actually pretty important to store your stems correctly if you want to make the most of them, as they do contain low amounts of psychoactive substances.

Tips for proper storage:

  • Airtight: A mason jar or a lunch box with a tight lid e.g.

  • Cool temperature: Im not saying you should keep them in the fridge, but keep them away from places with excessive heat or heat fluctuations.

  • Dry: Moisture can result in mold, we don't want this, we don't like this. Keep them dry.

  • Dark: Light can degrade cannabinoids over time.

  • Label: Label when you added your first stem to the airtight container. I recommend keeping them for 3 months at most. If you don't collect enough in 3 months, you can keep going, but potency will drop. Use common sense, if they smell or look off, try again next time.

Marijuana Stem Tea

Brewing tea with marijuana stems, no problem. Making marijuana twig tea bags? No problem. Here is the step-by-step process. From low potency to very potent.

Step 1: Collect all your stems in a little bowl and weigh them.

For low potency: Use 10-15 grams or 0.35-0.5 oz

For medium potency: Use 20-25 grams or 0.7-0.9 oz

For high potency: Use 30 grams / 1 oz or more

Keep in mind that weed stems are not all the same, some contain more cannabinoids than others. When getting to know a new way to get high, start on a low and safe dose.

Step 2: Break the stems into smaller pieces. You can grind, cut or just tear them. This step will ensure that most of the cannabinoids (THC and CBD e.g.) break down and release into the water.

Step 3: Decarboxulate the weed stems. If you skip this step, your tea simply won't work. Bake the cannabis stems in your oven at 230 f or 110 c for 40 minutes.

Step 4: Pour enough water into a kitchen pot (haha pot) to cover all your stems. However, you should account for some evaporation. Because of this, add a little more than just covered.

Step 5: When you have boiling water, add all your stems swiftly and reduce to low heat. OBS!

Step 6: Allow the process to take place, chill for half an hour while your stems are simmering. They should steep for at least 30 minutes. You can steep them for up to 3 hours to completely (almost) extract all the good stuff.

Step 7: Strain the tea into a cup with a coffee filter, fine mesh strain, or a cheesecloth. Some like to add flavorings to their tea at this step, but this is completely optional. Many people I know like to add:

  • Honey

  • Sugar

  • Lemon

  • Ginger

  • Or a tea bag of your favorite flavor

Step 8: Enjoy your freshly brewed hot weed stem tea.

Optional: Prepare your own marijuana twig tea bag/bags. Simply purchase empty tea bags (boil-proof) and pre-fill them with your desired amount. You now have a cannabis twig tea bag ready for use. Remember to store it correctly.

Marijuana Tincture (THC/CBD Alcohol)

Introducing the time-honored tradition of tinctures—a historical method of extracting the medicinal properties of herbs. Among these treasured tinctures is the cannabis tincture, revered for its therapeutic potential. Dating back centuries, cannabis tinctures have been utilized for their analgesic and relaxing properties. Join us as we explore a recipe that embraces this ancient practice of herbal medicine.

Step 1: Collect all your stems in a little bowl and weigh them.

For low potency: Use 10-20 grams or 0.35-0.7 oz and 50-100 grams of high-proof alcohol

For medium potency: Use 20-30 grams or 0.7-1 oz and 60-120 grams of high-proof alcohol

For high potency: Use 30 grams / 1 oz or more and 30-60 grams of high-proof alcohol

Keep in mind that weed stems are not all the same, some contain more cannabinoids than others. When getting to know a new way to get high, start on a low and safe dose.

What Alcohol Should I Use?

I find that vodka or Everclear works best, but any safe and high-proof stuff works. Go crazy with your favorite alcohol, try it out, and find out. It should be 80% or more, to extract as much as possible.

Step 2: Break the stems into smaller pieces. You can grind, cut or just tear them. This step will ensure that most of the cannabinoids (THC and CBD e.g.)

Step 3: Combine the alcohol with the weed stems. I recommend you use a glass jar. Make sure that the alcohol completely covers all the ground stems.

Step 4: Seal the lid tight and shake vigorously.

Step 5: Store the jar in a dark, and cool place. Now, you simply shake once daily for 4-6 weeks. This gives the mixture plenty of time to steep. This method is the most efficient to extract thc. Shorter periods might work, but you might end up with very little thc content in your weed tincture.

Step 6: Strain the mixture using a cheesecloth or super-fine mesh strainer. Really get in there and squeeze out as much as possible.

Step 7: Bottle and store it. You should use a dark-colored glass bottle. Tinctures can lose potency if presented to light. I would also label it with the date you made it and its contents. Store it cool and dark for up to 3 years. Remember to check it now and then for spoilage. Ideally, it should be gone before the 1-year mark.

How do I use Tinctures?

Tinctures can be used sublingually (under the tongue), added to food or beverages, or applied topically.

Marijuana Hot Cocoa

Cocoa is super delicious, and since we aren't smoking weed stems, we have a bunch of leftover stems. These stems can be used to create a potent or mild weed cocoa.

Step 1: Collect all your stems in a little bowl and weigh them.

For low potency: Use 3-6 grams or 0.1-0.2 oz of cannabis stalks

For medium potency: Use 6-9 grams or 0.2-3 oz

For high potency: Use 9 grams / 0.3 oz or more

NOTE! The cocoa is milder than the tea, this is because most people don't want to alter the taste of the cocoa too much.

Step 2: Gather 1 cup milk, 1 tbsp cocoa powder, and 1 tbsp sugar (or more)

Step 3: Break the stems into smaller pieces. You can grind, cut or just tear them. This step will ensure that most of the cannabinoids (THC and CBD e.g.)

Step 4: In a kitchen pot, heat the milk on low heat until it starts to simmer. DONT let it boil.

Step 5: Add the marijuana stems to the simmering milk and let simmer for 30-45 minutes. The longer you wait, the more "plant material" will be extracted.

Step 6: Strain the milk using cheesecloth or a fine mesh strainer, into another kitchen pot. Be careful not to burn yourself!

Step 7: Add your cocoa powder and sugar, let it all combine, and enjoy! You have now made weed hot cocoa.
